Applying for a counselling placement can feel like a big step. Your CV is often the first introduction a placement provider will have to you, so it needs to reflect not only your training and skills but also your attitude and potential as a future counsellor.
Key sections of a strong placement CV: 1. Contact information — name, address, phone, email 2. Personal profile — a short paragraph mentioning your stage of training, counselling approach, and what you are looking for 3. Education and training — your current counselling course and any completed training 4. Counselling experience — placements, roleplay, peer work, mock client sessions 5. Other relevant experience — care, teaching, support work, helpline roles 6. Skills — active listening, maintaining confidentiality, record keeping, working with difference 7. References — available on request
