York Women’s Counselling Service offers two voluntary trainee counselling/psychotherapy placements providing supervised one-to-one counselling to women in York. Sessions may be face-to-face in onsite rooms or through a secure online platform.

Who trainees work with: Weekly one-to-one counselling for women experiencing emotional and mental health difficulties; minimum two clients weekly after induction, up to 20 sessions with regular reviews.

Training level: BACP/UKCP-accredited core practitioner counselling course, Level 4 minimum.
Supervision and commitment: Trainees must engage with course-approved clinical supervision. Minimum two clients weekly after induction; volunteer trainees usually spend at least one year with the service. Enhanced DBS conducted and funded by YWCS.

Requirements: Placements are open to women only under the stated Equality Act exemption. Applicants must be enrolled on a BACP or UKCP-accredited core practitioner counselling course, Level 4 minimum.
